Hi Everyone …

Now the new year is in … it’s time to think about kitesurfing trips away over the next 12 months.

I’ve got 3 trips planned over the next year. Egypt in June, Brazil in October/November and Cape Verde in January 2013. They are all aimed at board starters and above. Conditions at each location are chosen within months favourable for wind and your level. Ridiculous Start To The Year!

I don’t know what to say really … apart from the fact we’ve all been totally side tracked by the immense amount of snow we have around us. Davos has transformed from a Golf course to Marsh Mellow Land. Do you remember the scene out of the film Ghostbusters where the giant marsh mellow man explodes … Its just just looks like that to be honest …

Its amazing how seasons can change just by the effect of conditions. Great Snow and Big smiles from everyone … not such good snow and all hell can let loose. In the valley and on the mountain! I keep bumping into one friend and he said he has to keep pinching himself to believe he’s riding powder everyday … and its still happening!

So we’ve bigger conditions we need bigger weapons so I bought myself a Powder board … love it! Its nearly as big as me(which isn’t saying alot) but it surfs like a surfy thing on a surfy day and makes you feel like your in it as opposed to being on top … Long may it last! Might need to go bigger on the Sticks of Shame! Mmmm?!

With the annul Oneill Comp on for the first part of the month Jeremy Jones graced the mountains with his presence which got everyone one excited … What a great chap he is too … Will say hi to anyone and even made my friend Duke feel a little star struck by his pleasantries.

It’s the WEF week next week so were all making alternative arrangements for accommodation or visiting our homelands. I’m off to Secret Spot … Can’t wait!

New Winter Season 2011/12 …

British Kitesurfing conditions lasted right up until the day I leaved, but when it’s time to go … you got to go! And it didn’t take long to get there either … 13 hrs to drive to Davos/Klosters to be exact … with some good tunes, time flew by!

On arrival the mountain resembled a landscape scene from the med, but within 24hrs the icing was on the cake. Amazing how you can witness such a transformation …

Life was all a bit Jam packed during the past 2 weeks and in true Synergy style I was teaching skiing on the slopes by 11am the next morning. Who said anything about sleeping! and who said anything about the pain from beach feet to boot ache … Wow! Legendary! New boots and alternative sport … So a quick trip to Heierling the boot magician worked wonders!

With two white out and two blue days and forecast for more snow the outlook looks promising … So here’s to a good start to a new season. So pleased we’ve experienced some Pow wow so soon!

Nice one to our first to clients! Ben for pushing his limits through the challenging conditions and always good to shred with Ian at least once a year …

I thought Winter was here … ?!

Winter is here … but its not got the bite it had at the end of last season. This time last year we were all lobbing snowballs at each other. This time round its no rest for the wicked and were still teaching. Though i’ve gog myself one of those new snuggly Ion Drysuits it not to cold to be fair … in fact the term cold isn’t fair!

Halloween and Bonfire Night have been and gone … Kevin put on quite a show on both occasions … check ‘Zipper Face’.

Lessons have still been running and I even had a swift visit from my Synergy colleague ‘Donz’. Apparently he couldn’t stop feeling the burn for a week after his afternoon in the waves. Good to see him though …

This time of year we get the new releases for the North Surfboard range, plus the Evos had an earlier release date. Fortunately got my hands on a the ‘Nugget’ and a 7m. Brilliant combo, most fun I’ve had in months on the water. The board is not dissimiliar to the Sweet Potato from Firewire but in a 5ft version. Loved every minute and so does anyone who’s had a go …

So we have a SE wind for weekend so keep flying those kites …

How better than to finish the year off with a trip to Paradise ! Well Egyptian Paradise …

With a Zimbabwean, Italian, Malaysian/Argentinian, A Shoreham and 2 Gingers … It was set to be an interesting week.

Committing to a trip abroad with a sport relying on the elements is a little like rolling the dice! I’m always a little nervous with the prospect of a no wind situation. But I’m game to organise such trips so I’ve always got a few joker cards hidden up my sleeve …

We had it all, no wind, Wind, good company and good food. Which I have to say was a bonus for Egypt as we all know the Egyptian Belly stories. I started writing a day to day Blog but to be honest I got half way through it and decided … Do you know what? We had a Great time and if people would like to have a small snippet of that experience. They’ll just have to come out another time ….

The magical thing about these trips and spending so much time within a group is we all develop our own little quirks and characters. So I have written a few of my favourite memories about each rider that came along for the adventure … Plus there’s a few pictures … they always tell a story!!

The Team …

Marzia the ‘Tasmanian Devil’. What ever you do please don’t ask this lady if she’s having a good holiday if there hasn’t been No wind for 2 days … you won’t forget the response! Never ask her to come in for tuitional feedback … you may just use up some of her kiting time … especially when she is borrowing your board. This Gal is focused and she didn’t stop kiting!! She’s a Star!

Jabu … ‘A man that is always on holiday’ Whether it be relaxing with a book or sending himself to the far perimeters of the universe on his kiteboard. My he’s good to have a chuckle with, especially after a few Loopy Juicies … Sports some colourful luggage too!

Marc … Alias Pig Pen (Charlie Brown) Marc has a tendency to attract flying insects??? For a man that does wash, he obviously has a unique something about him. Often found out at sea lying on a paddle board on a no wind day, avoiding his newly found groupies … Well done for getting the board on your feet Mr T!

Richard … the Machinist! This man that just kept going, but what I like about this chap is he knew when to take his lot. When you’ve kited all day from dusk till dawn … know when to hang up your kiting shoes and have a beer … or two! Styling Mr!

Bru … Bru is the Bionic woman! Once blown up by a land mine persuing her love for charity work and is very lucky to be with us today. She has all the scars to prove it. But this hasn’t stopped her from learning to kitesurf and she’s a legend in her own right. At 50 years old I take my hat off to this character of life and she’s great to have a chat with till the early ours of the morning … Keep Rockin Ms Bru!

Myself … Apparently a bit of a Charlie Brown … I’ll let you guys work that one out for yourselves ?!

For this blog there’s many shots of Sunsets due to thats how September finished and October began. The final month of summer is always so good for camera work, I must get an SLR one day, but sods law you’d never have it on you when the time was there, so may be another Cybershot would do the trick. Amazing how good the i-phone is …

October has got off to a flying start with summer overlapping into the autumn month but yesterday the thermostat got turned down and my cargos came out. With all that good weather you’d have thought there would have been many paragliding days. Alas high pressure kills it … one great hour in the sky! Time to fly back to Egypt for BN1’s second workshop this year. Will keep you posted on stuff going on pending internet connection …

2011 UK Summer Has Arrived !!

Yep … I’m sitting in my flat thinking I must open a window or two … its flippin Hot! There’s hope yet for some summer conditions for a week or two. Though, I have heard through the grape vine we’re forecast snow in October … Glad i’m going to Egypt on the 9th for BN1’s 2nd workshop of the year. This time I’m in Ras Sudr expecting bags of wind from dawn till dusk. We’ve got a good crew coming along too so should be much fun!

Now we’re experiencing the last of the summer conditions, hopefully I’ll have an opportunity to get the big wing out to join the sky gods … fingers crossed!

September Blows!!

I was only saying to Frazer the other day … ‘Do feel like like life has just turned into one big bodydragging lesson?’ We agreed … now it feels like one Big 40 knot kitesurfing session. Who on earth turned the wind fans up a couple of notches? Last Tuesday was what I would call a survival session. You do it coz you said you did, but seriously when what could have been this 49 knot gust from hell raced up my lines … my Kahoona’s disappeared too … ??? It was a bit like being in a wind tunnel having ball bearings pelted at you while trying to hold your ground and have some fun at the same time. Possibly perversely Bliss as only you and a few others dared to sample the goods!

In between all this fun I have managed a few Lessons, one very memorable moment was sticking the 1.5 Imp up on the hill and feeling totally overpowered … looking at my student with eyes suggesting … may be we should do this another time ??

Yesterday was amazing … a day off teaching and one of those classic Brighton sessions. Five metre Evo ,surfboard, sunset session with peeling kickers reforming every where you rode till the end … Heaven! Always feels like Home Sweet Home in those moments!

Endless Beach Time!

So here we are! End of the summer according to the monthly calendar. Or is it really over … may be its endless? Just like the wind pot for 2011. If we take into account the law of averages we must have had our quoter of South westerly winds … but no, I’ve just looked at the wind chart from Sunday onwards and its all on again. Well … Rock on! and lets make the most of it and lets hope we get some waves too! What a lovely start to the month it was yesterday, and today I was at Caburn flying above the dual carriage way at 1200 ft … wicked view of the Seaford valley as the sea fog rolled in!

Shoreham Airshow This Weekend!

Once again that time has arrived … Shoreham Airshow 2012. Though the forecast doesn’t look promising, please use alternative beaches other than Lancing to go kitesurfing this weekend. The airport has a perimeter of safety and unfortunately Lancing Beach sits right at the end of the run way. You could see how that would freak a few pilots out!

Wonder if these two will be there?
